Kaenat Baig ‘Talking colours’ task 1
Fruits are what inspired me for the whole of intro to unit. I used what is around me and what I can get access to easily. A whole variety of mix medias were used such as watercolour (which was my favourite), oil pastels, fine liner, acrylic paint, water, pro markers etc. I really enjoyed making the 3rd drawing as it was multiple drawings and I thought of ripping the paper up and placing them near by to make the fruit look more like a fruit than just random rips around the page. As you can see, in some of my drawings I’ve only used a tiny amount of colour in precise areas so that when the drawing catches the eye, it highlights that area in particular and makes it more enduring and bold. Looking back I think I would’ve used natural dyes of fruits and vegetables to paint since it is something different and not just normal type of paint, as my focus was on nature around me.

I really enjoyed looking through your drawings. I like that you have chosen something simple from your environment and you placed it to a new and exciting aspect through different techniques. I really enjoyed your watercolour technique and I cherish the blurred borderlines of your colours; it is very beautiful and interesting for me. I like the colours and their combinations you have chosen, especially the orange and pink combination, that drawing is my favourite. I really love your banana drawing as well, it reminds me to one of the Velvet Underground’s album cover which is brilliant. I like that you observed these fruits thoroughly and that you built a collection for this topic. I like the ‘ripped’ technique that you used in the picture where you draw an avocado, a watermelon, a strawberry and an orange, it was really interesting and eye catching. The tones that you draw are beautiful as well.
To develop your work further, I would really love to see your drawings layered on each other because the colours would be amazing, I think! You could experiment with other natural materials as well, that would be great to see! Overall, I think your drawing style is eye catching and I can’t wait to see more of your works through the year!
