Salma Hagras Intro to “Ways of Seeing”
Similarly to my last reflection, I thoroughly enjoyed this task, seeing as how it was somewhat a continuation of the first task. I used apps on my phone to zoom in and out of images I had taken or initially take pictures of objects from strange and varying distances. All of a sudden I was seeing new textures and shapes and sometimes even streaks of colour that just weren’t there before; it was very eye opening. I tried my best to use new images while simultaneously linking both tasks to one another, so there will be a similarity between the shapes and lines but I think I managed to use new methods and techniques to convey my ideas. I tried to create textiles patterns and repeat patterns but they didn’t really turn out as good as I would’ve hoped, so that is something I would like to work on in the future.

I like how the artist has shown development of some features from the previous blogpost. The colours within the first (egg?) image are fun, and again I think this would translate well into a repeated print. It’s interesting how a single motif is recurring, but from different viewpoints. Personally I would have liked to know the context of the image to put the development into perspective, but the concept of zooming in to find new elements, explained in the reflection, sounds exciting. Again I feel that the artist could just push everything a step further and produce some images with more detail- perhaps considering a looser drawing style. All the images displayed are successful in their own right – the artist is very skilled at using dry media to create a graphic style. It would be nice to see a combination of media used on one piece.
