To do this I mainly used both physical and digital collage, alongside further experimentation with ‘wet’ media: watercolour & acrylic paint. Throughout this investigation I struggled with patience and inspiration – I found myself discarding the initial stages of a drawing if I didn’t like it, instead of pushing the work, and myself, further. As a result of this I’ve ended up with a few pieces that feel rushed and unfinished. This may be because I put too much pressure on myself to be overly “creative”, rather than experimenting and letting the drawings evolve. However I enjoyed using ‘doodling’ as a mark making tool, and I’m excited by the images I’ve produced that combine oil pastel, fine liner doodles, and watercolour. They feel looser and less boxy than my other work. I’d like to use this technique in future to create motifs for digital sublimation prints. I think my drawings have become more experimental but there’s still further to go; I need to continue producing work in order to develop this drawing style.
