I tried to use this task not only to investigate colour but also to loosen up my drawing skills. Unfortunately I had to self isolate so I drew from photographs I had taken beforehand around London. This forced me to have a more instinctive approach – the images I worked from were based on initial attraction and not encouraged by a brief. Because of this I feel I managed to study a variety of colour palettes and subjects; the observation of a crane came from interest in it’s structure, but I would never usually have focused on its colour. I enjoyed extracting from a more subtle palette, and in future will continue to study colour in unexpected scenes. In future I’ll try and push myself to do a few more intricate, time consuming studies, as some of mine are quite simplistic line drawings. However I like the rustic effect of the white line drawing on cardboard, and may develop this further, continuing to use cardboard as a base.
